Testing the new Unagi Model One Voyager electric scooter has been quite an entertaining experience. This model, an evolution of the original Model One launched in 2019 which we already reviewed, stands out for being extremely light compared to most electric scooters, which tend to be bulky and heavy. Its compact design makes it easy to transport, even in tight spaces such as stairs.

Design and Portability

With its unique look and its palette in 4 colors: Matte Black, Cobalt Blue, Fog Green and Latte, it maintains the same look and materials as its younger brother. High quality and discreet power, this elegant and light scooter remains a favorite. It folds easily and is so manageable that it seems like you could put it in a pocket. This scooter is ideal for those who need a light and easy-to-carry means of transport on days where walking long distances is not an attractive option.

Construction

The construction remains as premium as the Classic. The carbon fiber, magnesium, aluminum, beautiful paint finishes, bright display, puncture-proof tires, and single-latch folding mechanism all carry over to the Voyager.

Setup and Usability

Mounting and setting up the Voyager is a simple process. The scooter quickly connects with the Unagi app (available for Android and iOS) which, while basic, is one of the most elegant electric scooter apps I've tested. It allows you to toggle between single and dual motor, select speed, turn on the front light, and lock the scooter, among other functions. Something very useful is the ability to input your weight and height for a more accurate estimate of battery life. You can even update the scooter's firmware from the app.

Folding Functionality

The Voyager's folding system is exceptional. With a stainless steel hinge at the base, folding and unfolding the scooter is a breeze. Thanks to its light weight of approximately 14kg and compact design, it is easy to transport without it getting caught on rails or hitting walls.

Riding and Performance

There are three riding modes that basically limit the speed or extend the battery life, depending on how you look at it. The first mode tops out at 15km/h, the second stops at 20km/h and the third boosts it to 25km/h, however, the scooter can be unlocked to go 30km/h. To unlock the speed limit, simply turn the scooter on and hold down the handbrake and accelerator. Continue holding them down and press the power button 10 times – you will hear two beeps and it will now be unlocked. To change it back, follow the same steps and hear a single beep this time. As for power, the Voyager features two 250-watt motors, which can be increased up to 1000 watts. You can switch between single and dual motor modes depending on your needs. The ride on flat terrain is very smooth, although on uneven roads you feel every bump due to the 7.5-inch solid rubber tires.

Handlebars and Display

The Voyager One's display is the same as the Classic's, with one difference: dual motor mode is now properly indicated with two-wheel icons on the screen, instead of a single icon. In addition, the display shows the battery level, current speed, and riding mode, and is also easy to read in bright sunlight.

Range and Recharging

As for range, according to the manufacturer it is 40km, but we have traveled between 25 and 32km and with the dual motor mode about 16km. Although this performance can vary depending on the weight of the driver and the terrain, most users will find that it meets the range expectations announced by Unagi. Additionally, the Voyager fully recharges in three hours and can reach 50% charge in just one hour.

Final Thoughts

The Unagi Model One Voyager is a great option for those who need lightweight, efficient transportation for short trips. However, its IPX4 water and dust resistance rating limits its use in heavy rain. Although its retail price is high (€1,190), it is also available for rent at €69 per month, with the option to include theft insurance.

Unagi's Model One Voyager is an attractive option due to its sleek design, ease of use, and portability. While there are alternatives on the market with more power and autonomy, few match the simplicity and style of this model.
